How To Get Healthy After The Holidays

How To Bounce Back After Eating Bad During The Holidays

Happy New Year!! It’s 2020 and if you’re anything like me you probably are excited for the new year while also feeling a tad bit guilty of how badly you ate during the holiday season. But can anyone blame us? My mom makes the best turkey and stuffing! And the pork on Christmas? Oh man, it’s so tasty! But oh so bad for our bodies! So, it’s time to get our bodies back in order by using the following habits as guidelines to getting yourself back in shape after indulging in junk food for the past two months!

Drink Water

Despite how simple it sounds, drinking water has the ability to detoxify your entire body and all it’s organs while lubricating your joints as well. You don’t need fancy pills or detox teas to detoxify your body - you just need spring WATER, that’s it! Water is essential - we all know that. But how many of us are seriously drinking enough water throughout the day? My guess is few! During the holidays you probably ate acidic foods and drank alcohol which is acidic. This means that your body was already in need of extra water to buffer out that acidity. Most people never even bothered to drink more water so many of you are probably severely dehydrated after all that bad food. Thus, you need to drink even more spring water to catch up. Notice I didn’t say purified water because it tends to not get absorbed by the body leaving us still dehydrated. Spring water has the minerals still in them to help the absorption into your body’s tissues (which purified water does not). So, drink more spring water!

Get Your Sleep Right Using This Trick

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that can get your body and mind back into balance like a good night’s rest. The only problem is that if you were partying and on vacation for the past couple weeks for the holidays then you probably stayed out late and slept in late. When you sleep in late you get sunlight later in the day. This starts to set your circadian rhythm later which makes you fall asleep later making you wake up later...and then the cycle just continues. To prevent this simply wake up with the sunrise and get sunlight on your eyes as soon as you can. 20 minutes is usually enough to set your circadian rhythm in place. Once your eyes get morning sunlight you will see that just like magic you’ll start to feel sleepy only a couple of hours after the sun sets (instead of at midnight or later). So, go ahead and try it you’ll see what I mean!

Eat Greens

If you’re looking to feel like a million bucks again after the holidays then put down the chips and the crackers and pick up some green vegetables. “The green pigment in plants, called chlorophyll, increases blood-cell production and improves oxygenation, detoxification, and circulation” (1). There’s an absolute guarantee that the foods you ate this past holiday season were inflammation-INducing, so you’ll need some foods that are inflammation REducing. That’s where green foods come into play because the Chlorophyllin in them has been shown to reduce inflammation and bacterial growth (2).

Cleanse With Apple Cider Vinegar Chances are also high that you caught some kind of cold or cough this past holiday season because the temperature was low, you were eating bad, and you were interacting with many people. If that is the case then shots of apple cider vinegar will be your best friend. It kills fungal infections, parasites, candida, and other harmful bacteria that you might’ve picked up during the holidays, thanks to the Acetic Acid it contains. So, go ahead and buy some Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar, shake it up, and then take a tablespoon or two or it (straight or in water, it doesn’t matter). Enjoy the sour!

Go Get Your Sweat On With Exercise

Exercise, in general, is going to help you not only feel better but also help you lose some body fat that you might’ve packed on during the Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, New Year’s drinks, etc. By now you understand that exercise has more health benefits than you can imagine. Exercise not only eliminates most of the risk of getting any sort of disease or illness but it also makes you feel good and gives you lasting energy. If that isn’t good enough for you then I don’t know what is. So, just go out and take a walk in the sun, do some bodyweight squats (maybe some pull-ups too) and get a little bit of a sweat going, it’ll do your body good!

Now you have a recipe for getting your life back on track after the holidays: drink water to flush out your body of toxins, get your sleep straight, get your diet right with greens and drink apple cider vinegar, and exercise. Paul Chek calls these each doctors. He says when you get Dr. Diet, Dr. Quiet, and Dr. Movement in order you get your life in order. So, make sure to care for your body and change your habits to ones that will nourish and care for your temple so that when the holidays come back around you can indulge without feeling so guilty.
